Each spring, I like to do a small refresh to my home decor. After you’ve done the spring cleaning and everything’s been purged, there’s just something about styling each room so that everything has its place. It doesn’t have to mean redecorating the whole room. A refresh can be a chance to affordably spruce up your space. While there are several ways to adjust or add to your home decor, I wanted to share four of my favorite ways to freshen up a room.
1. Add Greenery
Including a small arrangement of greenery or floral to the room can bring your decor to another level. It doesn’t even have to be a real plant! I love these faux eucalyptus stems. Place them in a vase to bring any room to life! I’ve also placed a faux olive tree and fiddle leaf plant in different rooms to add some warmth. Not to mention, it’s an easy accent to change out each season. Try some cherry blossom or pussy willow stems in the spring. And, don’t forget about dried florals and pompas grass – they are the perfect touch for your fall decor.
2. Accessorize with Throw Pillows
Another easy way to infuse color and warmth to a room is to add throw pillows. Don’t go overboard! You don’t need your hubby grumbling each time he goes to the couch and needs to move 5 pillows just to find a seat. By accessorizing with accent pillows you can change up the colors and patterns with the season. I love my neutrals, but still like to change it up with different patterns throughout the year.
Instead of buying the full pillow, I buy pillow covers and then use the same pillow forms all year. It takes up so much less space in storage! My favorite pillow forms are made for indoor/outdoor areas. This makes it to where I don’t have to worry about them out on the patio with the rain or even inside with a spilled drink!
3. Include Texture & Unique Accents
Your bigger pieces of furniture, like sofa, dining table and bed, are investment pieces and you most likely went with a neutral color to make sure it wouldn’t look out of place in a couple of years. Make sure to accentuate those investment pieces with decor that incorporates patterns, textures, and contrasting colors to complete your look. I found this small, modern drink table at Target. It’s pattern makes it pop and it’s definitely a conversation piece. Adding a woven pouf to your seating area brings texture and adds warmth. It also can serve as a coffee table, foot rest, or even extra seating if needed. Functional and pretty? Win, Win!
4. Create Height & Dimension
When styling a shelf or coffee table, add pieces that will help create some height and dimension to your arrangement. My favorite way to accomplish this is to add a few books stacked on top of each other. You’re able to stack as few or as many to help you get your desired height before adding a candle or other decorative element on top. I’ve had great luck finding beautiful coffee table books at Home Goods, Amazon, and TJ Maxx. I also love this personalized stack of books and the added modern candle sticks to also help create some height.
