6 Fall Layering Essentials

As we start heading into fall, the weather can change in an instant (especially here in the Midwest!). Layers are key! Grabbing the basic hoodie isn’t your only option. Whether you’re headed out for a family fun day or a date night, don’t forget about these six fall layering essentials in your closet.

1. Leggings

You already know leggings are a fall closet staple! My favorite leggings are high-waisted and have a no-show waistband or the flattering cross-over waistband. Then, add a sweater and a cape cardigan to elevate your leggings look.

2. plaid jacket

Plaid + Jacket = Quintessential fall look! I love all of the fun plaid jackets out right now. This one from Walmart is an oversized boyfriend fit. So, it’s perfect for adding more layers underneath! Wearing xs.

3. jeans

You always need a pair of jeans for a fall capsule wardrobe. One of my favorite pairs right now is this boyfriend jean fit from Kut from the Kloth. This cut is a bit looser through the leg, but not too loose to hide your curves. There are a few different washes in this style if you’d like a little less distressing. They do fit TTS. 4. cardigan

A true throw-on-and-go fall piece will always be the cardigan. Trending this fall are statement cardigans like this one with the super cute fringe accents! Pair it with a graphic tee and you’re ready to go.

5. quilted jacket

A lightweight jacket is truly a fall essential which is why I love the quilted jackets so much! The quilting adds such a fun detail for those dreary fall days. This one even comes with a hood! Pair it with a cute gauze flannel (size up) to complete the look.

6. shacket

Shirt jackets (aka shackets) are a cute, casual addition to your fall wardrobe. This fall I’m even seeing some amazing long shackets! The same great style, but only in a longer length – they hit anywhere from the mid-thigh to even the mid-calf. Free People makes some of my favorite shackets. They’re so cozy and come in lots of colors! This one was recently restocked!
